Olicept Safety & Interactions

By the Olicept Editorial Team · · 4 min read

In Short

Biotin can disturb some lab tests, and B vitamins can matter with several medicines.

Ask a doctor or pharmacist before use, and read your label.

Biotin and lab tests

Biotin can interfere with some blood tests, including certain thyroid and cardiac tests, and can cause misleading results. Tell your doctor and the lab you take it, and ask whether to pause beforehand.

Folate and B12

Extra folate can mask a vitamin B12 shortage, which matters because untreated B12 deficiency can harm nerves. Ask your doctor before long-term use if you may be low in B12.

Medicines

Anticonvulsants, metformin, levodopa and acid-reducing medicines can interact with B vitamins, for example by changing B12 absorption or the effect of levodopa. Tell your clinician or pharmacist exactly what you take.

Who should be especially careful

Anyone pregnant, breastfeeding or under 18, anyone with a medical condition or on regular medication, and anyone about to have blood tests. No safety data for the finished capsule was found.
